It is a very exciting time for us at Airbus having recently introduced a new family member called the A220, formerly the Bombardier C-Series aircraft. The A220 is a purpose built family of aircraft in the 100 to 150 seat category and is a perfect fit alongside the A320neo Family. We are proud to on-board this new product into the Airbus Family and excited to demonstrate the value it has in our market.
Two other exciting milestones have been achieved this week for our product portfolio the first of which is that the A330-900 received its EASA Type Certification. The A330neo embodies Airbus’ spirit of innovation by taking a great product and introducing new technology to make it even better. We look forward to the EIS of the A330neo in the coming weeks. The second achievement is that EASA & FAA have both certified the A321neo for long-range operations – the A321LR is the most flexible and capable version of the A321neo to date and has proven very popular in the market as it allows airlines to expand their network, with unbeatable economics, into markets that traditionally required the range of a wide-body aircraft.
We all know that we are in a growth industry and that air traffic doubles approximately every 15 years. Our recently published Global Market Forecast confirms this trend and we predict a need for an additional 37,400 aircraft over the next 20 years. Airbus has a strong portfolio of aircraft to meet this demand and as ever we are committed to deliver only the very best to our customers. Stay tuned for the detailed market forecast for the Middle East and Africa.
Finally let me congratulate both Gulf Air and Jazeera on the recent introduction of the A320neo into their fleets; the A320 Family has been the reference single-aisle aircraft for the region and we are proud to see the A320neo, with its new generation engines and Sharklets, continue that role into the future.
For those of you planning to visit the Bahrain Air Show, I look forward to seeing you there!
