What an exciting start to 2016!
Firstly, Airbus concluded 2015 with record deliveries of 635 aircraft to customers around the world, of which 54 deliveries were for the airlines in our region. This achievement is another indication of this company's commitment to continuously exceed targets in meeting customer demands.
The month started with the announcement of Gulf Air's purchase agreement for 29 A320neo aircraft at the Bahrain International Airshow (BIAS 2016). We thank Gulf Air for the confidence they show in this great aircraft family. During BIAS 2016, most Airbus aircraft types were on display by our customers. Qatar Airways and Emirates displayed their A380s, Kuwait Airways brought in the A330, and SaudiGulf's first A320 was present. Also at this year's BIAS, Qatar Airways A350 had its debut.
Other news marks the historic agreement between Airbus and Iran Air, the Airline of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which took place in Paris. Once again after 24 years, Iran Air - the very first Airbus customer in the Middle East, have selected new aircraft from Airbus. The agreement for up to 118 aircraft includes the entire Airbus family portfolio from the A320 all the way up to the flagship A380 aircraft. I would like to congratulate Iran Air for this landmark agreement and extend my best wishes to this long standing Airbus customer as they look forward to a prosperous future. Pirooz Bashid!
